Celebrate Coke's 100th birthday with Trussardi

Published by

It’s Coca-Cola’s 100th birthday, and to honour this century old institution, designers at Trussardi have given the can a makeover. If there’s one thing Coca-Cola have proven they can do is make their product a must have item (remember the name branded cans?) and now they’re adding a dash of Italian cool to proceedings. Other recent ventures by the company have been releasing Braille edition cans and a 100% recyclable PlantBottle.

Trussardi are pretty big names in the land of high-end fashion, boasting Lady Gaga and Katie Holmes as clients. But now they’re moving into the world of commercial, disposable goods. Their haute couture aesthetic might feel a touch out of place on the catwalk (unless its diet) but remember, Coca-Cola have previous form having collaborated with the likes of Marc Jacobs and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Founded in 1911 by Dante Trussardi, the fashion house began life as a leather glove maker during World War II. By 1985, the brand had 120 stores around the world and by the 1990s they had expanded into lifestyle products with their T-Stores, selling sports lines, bicycles and tableware. This lifestyle element fits the brand perfectly with Coke, and their experience with luxury apparel and accessories is nodded to in the faux-lizard skin gold design.

Trussardi’s greyhound motif and a brown, gold and red colour scheme have all be incorporated into the design. All three designs are branded with the words “Elegantly Cool”... although if you have to say it, it kind of detracts from the message. But either way, it’s fun to see fashion houses having a go at product design.

But sad news for the UK Coca-Cola fan contingent, these cans will only be available at select locations across Sicily for a limited time, until the end of October. So if you’re sunning yourself in Italy any time soon, keep your eyes peeled.
